Pitch This! Competition
Imagine if we said that your future career relies on more than just textbooks. That is probably not something you would expect to hear from an education institution, right?
But that is what we believe here at the Sydney City Campus, and we practice what we preach! Just take a look at the Pitch This! Competition.
Pitch This! Competition
The Pitch This! Competition takes place every year and is targeted towards third-year students who are preparing for the workforce. The competition helps them sharpen their skills so that they can transition into the workforce. The students practically apply their learnings from university, use their knowledge to help benefit community organisations, collaborate with and compete against fellow students, and network with others.
The way it works is quite simple. The students participating receive a brief from a client, and then they work on a strategy or solution to meet the brief. The students then present their recommendations to the client, and then the client picks a winner (where they may decide to use the winning strategy!).
2023 Pitch This! Competition
The 2023 Pitch This! Competition took place towards the end of 2023. The client was Scouts ACT, and their brief was for students to find a way to attract more adult volunteers, as this was a challenge for the client. Students then used their learnings from their degrees to develop a campaign that would attract new adult volunteer registrations for Scouts ACT. The students then pitched their concepts to Scouts ACT, who would then choose the winner.
2023 Pitch This! Competition Winners
A massive congratulations to Western Sydney University, Sydney City Campus, students Odelle D’Souza, Natalie Lecce, Natalia Glavocevic, and Madison Bogdanovski for winning the 2023 Pitch This! Competition. A lot of hard work went into winning the competition. Once the students understood the brief in detail, they applied the expertise and skills they learned throughout the Bachelor of Communication degree to develop a campaign which involved coming up with an idea, selecting media channels and creating content. Scouts ACT were very impressed with Western’s submission, and plan to implement their strategy in the coming months.
Odelle spoke about what winning the competition meant to her and the team.
“We’re really proud of our work and being selected as the winners of a national competition is a great achievement. Furthermore, receiving feedback from the Scouts ACT team that our ideas were new, realistic and practical for their business, was a great confidence boost as we head towards graduation and start working in industry”.
Congratulations again to the winning team from Western Sydney University, Sydney City Campus. And a shoutout to the teachers, who also teach at Sydney Institute of Business and Technology (SIBT), for their lessons which helped these students succeed.
