Starting your pathway to university this year? You might be experiencing a range of emotions right now. A bit of excitement, along with some nerves, are totally normal. But if you’re prepared for this upcoming session, then those pre-session jitters stand no chance. Whether it’s making new friends, navigating campus, or managing your workload, a little prep can go a long way. Here’s how you can shake off the nerves so that you can dive into your first year with confidence.

  1. Attend Orientation Day

Think of Orientation Day as a warm-up for the year ahead. Our Orientation Day is your chance to meet your classmates, explore the campus and get some tips from your program convenors. Student Life Guides, which is like a Student Handbook that contains all the tips and resources you need, is also provided on the day so that you are well prepared. Knowing all the resources available on campus will put you in control for your journey to university.

  1. Prep Like a Pro

Build your confidence before the session starts by enrolling, sorting out your timetable, and making a study plan. This study plan includes scheduling some time in after classes to write a summary of your lecture, completing tutorial tasks and putting in key dates into your calendar. And if you’re feeling adventurous, why not scout out the best coffee and lunch places near campus? Because don’t forget, the city is your campus!

  1. Find Your People

The best part about your SIBT life will be the people you meet. Join student groups, participate in class discussions, engage in campus activities and don’t be shy, because everyone else is in the same boat as you. Connect with your classmates to ensure you have the best experience on campus.

  1. Explore!

Have you ever been lost on your first day? We certainly have. It’s why we recommend that you explore the campus before classes commence. When you attend Orientation, take advantage of a campus tour. Since SIBT is co-located with Western Sydney University, Sydney City Campus, you will have access to top-notch study spaces, a well-equipped library and student support services. Take a stroll around, find your classrooms, play some pool and find the vending machines! And once orientation ends, explore everything around campus, like the glorious Hyde Park, with the new mates you have made.

You Got This!

Starting your pathway to university is a big deal, but you’re more than ready for it. With a little planning and a positive mindset, you’ll be cruising through the first session like a pro. Need more tips? Check out the SIBT website for more information on our resources and student support.

Wishing you all the best in your new adventure!
