Reporting Safety Concerns or Abuse

If you experience or witness actual or suspected sexual, physical or other forms of abuse—or if something simply does not feel right—you can report it to:

  • Under 18 Coordinator
  • Student Services team
  • Your homestay provider
  • NSW Police (000 for emergencies or 131 444 for non-emergencies)
  • 1800 RESPECT

All concerns are taken seriously. You will not be in trouble for speaking up, and information is kept confidential unless action is required to keep you safe.

Wellbeing and Counselling Support

Your Under 18 Coordinator is a qualified student counsellor and is your main point of contact for personal matters, emotional support, safety concerns and homestay issues. As part of your CAAW obligations, you will meet regularly with your coordinator during the session. You can also request an appointment at any time.

Working in Australia

Many international students take casual or part-time work. It is important to understand your workplace rights. International students have the same legal protections as all other workers in Australia. Key points include:

  • You must be paid at least the minimum wage.
  • You should receive a payslip each time you are paid.
  • You cannot be forced to sign a contract.
  • Your employer cannot take money from your pay unless it is lawful and authorised.
  • You have the right to a safe workplace that is free from bullying, discrimination and harassment.
  • Asking for help will not affect your visa.
