Student Support Services

At SIBT we know that learning is more than just a qualification – it’s about the balance between knowledge and experience that gets your career off to a great start, giving you the best chance for success in life.

With small class sizes, student mentors and easy access to lecturers, SIBT goes further to prepare its students for academic study.

SIBT also has a team of Student Learning Advisors who have a variety of specialised pathway skills, and focus on welfare and language enhancement to provide that additional support and guidance to make sure its students stay on track to making their university dream a reality!

International Student Support

Adjusting to studying and living in Australia

Student Support Services staff are available to assist international students in adjusting to study and life in Australia. You can book an appointment with a Student Learning Advisor or the Student Counsellor between 8:30am and 5:30pm any day to assist you with any enquiries that you may have relating to your study, welfare, or any personal matters that may be affecting your study. Click here to book an appointment.

English Language and Study Assistance Programs

At SIBT, we offer one-on-one learning and study assistance. You can make an appointment with a Student Learning Advisor (language enhancement) and bring an example of your written work along with you for assistance.

English Conversation Groups

English Conversation Groups (ECG) are run by trained student volunteers in a fun and friendly environment at SIBT. The program consists of five, weekly, one-hour sessions run during session. To find out about signing up, email activities@sibt.nsw.edu.au.

Academic and Maths Support

SIBT has dedicated Learning Advisors ready to assist you with academic literacy support, essay writing, research, reporting, presentation skills and more. SIBT also runs free academic support workshops throughout the year.

Mathematics underpins many disciplines including Accounting, Engineering and Computing and IT. SIBT provides direct support to build your confidence in mathematics and statistics.

Working in Australia

All people working in Australia have basic rights and protections in the workplace, including minimum pay and safe work conditions. Details can be viewed here.

When working in Australia, you will need a Tax File Number (TFN). You need this number so that your employer can pay you and so that you pay the correct tax amount. You can apply for a TFN here.

When looking for a job, you will need to ensure that you have a resume and cover letter written. This will be a required component of your job application and our Student Support Services team can help you write these.

Jobs can be found on job boards such as Seek and Indeed. We also post job opportunities across our social media channels or around campus, so keep an eye out for these openings!
