Diploma of Information Technology

The Diploma of Information Technology at SIBT is designed to meet current and emerging needs in the IT sector. As a graduate of this diploma, you will possess knowledge and skills that will enable you to succeed in a wide range of IT practices, including information systems, programing and software design, computer networks, statistics, mathematics for computing, and data management. Additionally, you will develop transferable skills to adapt to fast-moving developments in areas such as cyber security, artificial intelligence and quantum computing cloud networks.

The Diploma of Information Technology will also enable you to transition to entry-level IT technology roles by increasing your digital skills.

Course Structure

The Diploma of Information Technology can be completed over two or three sessions. It comprises of core (mandatory) and elective units. You will study eight units in total from the list below, which includes seven core units and one elective unit.

Successful completion of an SIBT Diploma will allow you to enter a bachelor’s degree at Western Sydney University, Sydney City Campus with eight units of credit.

*Students can also progress into a Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology with 7 units of credit.

You must complete and pass the required eight units for your Diploma. Graduates who achieve an overall average of 50% (taking into account all units attempted) will gain entry into Western Sydney University, Sydney City Campus. Students who do not achieve this will be considered for entry on an individual basis.

Employment and career paths

Using the Diploma as a stand-alone qualification will allow you to progress into an entry level position, such as IT help desk, computer networking technician support, database assistant or systems support.
